Malman float bodies are turned from a high strength closed cell foam used in aerospace engineering and formula one race cars. This foam has significant advantages over balsa-
- Closed cell structure means that they will never take on water, any damage to the float body will not make any difference to the shotting. Uncoated prototypes have been left shotted up in water for 6 weeks with no noticeable change.
- As light as the lightest balsa but as hard as the heaviest, meaning the bodies can be tough without being too big, creating less resistance in the water which ultimately leads to more sensitive floats.
- 'Paintless' surface meaning no paint to crack because the foam doesn't need sealing in like balsa does, however the floats are covered with a coat of flexible varnish to reinforce side eyes.
